Sure, Passion Pit‘s debut ep Chunk Of Change was good and the song “Sleepyhead” inspired some pretty awesome fan videos, but from the looks and sounds of things, the upcoming full length, Manners (Columbia/French Kiss, May 19), is going to take things much further. Check out the ripped paper style video for “The Reeling” below, and read on to find out how you can win some awesome Passion Pit merch, thanks to Insound.

Subinev and Insound have teamed up to give you a shot at scoring a vinyl copy of Manners, as well as an exclusive lithograph poster (which is super sexy, if you ask me). Just head over to the contest page to enter. The winner will be announced here on May 6.

New The Black Lips Video – “I’ll Be With You”

Atlanta’s Black Lips recently released this video (which I like, despite the clown) for the single off their new album, 200 Million Thousand.

Apparently there’s something very wrong with the people of New York and Radio 4 are left to run through the streets trying to figure it out. Also, violence on the tv! Horror! It’s a new video from Radio 4 for their second single off Enemies Like This, “Packing Things Up On The Scene.” I really want to know what’s wrong with everybody in the video. By the way – take note of the good acting! Nice work, guys!

Videos from The Big Sleep and Beck

Not to completely cop Stereogum‘s posts, but here are two new music videos: the first is for The Big Sleep‘s fantastic track “Murder” off their recently released Son of the Tiger album. Watch the video for “Murder”. As The Big Sleep are so often described as cinematic in their sound, it’s nice that their video reflects this and plays like a short spy film. Awesome. Previously: The Big Sleep robotinev. They’re playing 4 shows during CMJ, so it should actually be pretty hard to miss them. Shame on you if you do (um, and you’re actually in NYC).
I’ve had The Information on repeat for the past day, so this is an appropriate treat: Beck‘s “Cell Phone Dead” video directed by Michel Gondry. I get to see Beck perform for the first time in 8 years this weekend. I can’t wait! Expect a full report after the show.

Have you been paying attention? Do you still think that Ben Kweller is that mop-haired kid who isn’t Adam Green that sang the “sha-sha song” (“Sha-Sha”)? Perhaps you happened to catch on to his underservingly overlooked album from last year, On My Way? With a new album due out September 19th on ATO Records (preorder here) he’s been gearing up for a tour with a series of short videos (a new one each week) called “One Minute Pop Song.” He’s up to episode three, in which he rates his musical technical skills on a scale of 1-10.

Kayo Dot kitty vid

This isn’t really news exactly, but it involves music, moving pictures, and a really cute kitty, so I’d say it’s worthy of some attention here on Subinev.
Boston’s Kayo Dot are impossibly hard to describe. Experimental is definitely the right place to start – but genres like jazz, psych, indie rock, and metal definitely find their way into this band, whose makeup has a rock core (bass, drum, guitars) that is expanded by strings, percussion, and horns. No matter which direction they choose to go at any time, the execution is always flawless and the result pretty spectacular. This is not easy music – and certainly not always accessible, but it’s passionate and complicated and ultimately quite satisfying. In other words – it’s worth your time to check it out.
Now, the point of talking about Kayo Dot is to point you to this slightly odd but essentially just really incredibly cute kitty (flash) video that they put up. It’s from March, but I just noticed it for the first time and I think you’ll thank me for it.

Swiped from Michael, here is a video from the infamous acoustic Self performance at Spaceland that will be out on DVD if they can get all the legal mumbojumbo figured out – watch “I Love To Love Your Love My Love.” I know I’m a total cheeseball but that song has always been one of my favorites.
Also: in this video of Beck performing “Clap Hands” with a dinner table of percussionists, Matt (of Self) is rocking the forks and knives. Don’t skip this one, it’s a pretty amazing performance.

Margot and the Nuclear So and So’s have a new video out for their song “Quiet as a mouse,” which has one of the most extreme bass slide sounds in recent memory and bears more than a passing resemblence to a Nada Surf song (but we’ll let that slide for now). Watch the video on myspace or here. I love the slightly creepy animation style they’re using.
