F*ckbook!

Mysteriously “legendary” Matador Records trio Condo F*cks (gimme a break, I’m trying to be a little family-friendly here, alright?) released their insta-hit record F*ckbook this week. I was pretty bummed to see that my local record shop didn’t even have it out on their new release shelf – what’s wrong, too timid? – and I had to ask for it to get a copy.

From the depths of Connecticut, they cut through rockin’ classics and should-be classics through the ages just for you. Sure, they might share members with another band, but don’t expect this to sound like a Yo La Tengo album.

I wish I could be there, this should be really fun. Despite rumors, I do not actually live in Canada now. Close, but not quite.
That weekend is actually a busy one here in Portland, Maine, with Dark Meat blowing through town with their confetti-sprinkled-psych-stravaganza at SPACE and then a couple days of good times with Tod’s photos and the Japanther/Matt & Kim show. Yowzers!

Since our first event last August, all of us bloggers behind After The Jump have learned a thing or two about putting on a successful music festival. I think our CMJ and SXSW showcases (and unofficial parties) helped… but whatever it was, as good as our events have been over the past year, this weekend’s all day festival in Williamsburg was by far the biggest success. We had 36 bands, 4 stages, and lots of happy music fans! Thanks to all the bands, sponsors, venues, and attendees!

ATJ Bands Around The Blogs

The bands playing this Saturday’s After The Jump Fest in Brooklyn sure are keeping busy! I interviewed Ponytail (the headliners of our Music Hall of Williamsburg Noise Stage) for Ruined Music Backstage, but some of my fellow NY music bloggers have really been working hard to make sure that you can learn a lot about all of the bands playing. Check it out:

Not only did Pat make a comprehensive mix of the bands playing the Fest for you, but he’s also been profiling (and in many cases, interviewing) bands like crazy. Check it out: Mixel Pixel, The Forms, Project Jenny, Project Jan, The Shackeltons, Fiasco, Wakey! Wakey!, Snake & Jet’s Amazing Bullit Band, Extra Life, Dinowalrus, The Antlers, Captain Ahab & The Sea Crackens, The Austerity Program, Monotract, Autodrone, and Noveller.

We’ve got the flyers (full schedule included) for the After The Jump Fest in Williamsburg on June 21. I’m really impressed with and proud of the lineup we’ve put together. Check it out!

One of the bands playing (the North 6th Stage @ 3:30pm) is the Antlers, and to promote the show, they’ve put together a free EP called New York Hospitals that you can download here. Pat has the exclusive premier on the recordings, including links to the invidual tracks.

After the Jump is the joint effort of 20 New York City music bloggers whose sites attract over one million readers a week. Founded last year in support of underfunded city school music programs, After the Jump has planned and staged concerts in association with the massive South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas and the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City as well as our own all day and night festival last summer in Brooklyn. This summer, on June 21st, After the Jump will be partnering with Make Music NY to throw our second annual festival, taking over the Music Hall of Williamsburg, Galapagos Art Space, and the North 6th Street itself with four stages and over 40 bands.
