It was a long, fun week in Austin, Texas for me. I will be posting some additional photos over time, but for now you can see a lot of them here and here. Because of a combination of my SPIN shooting assignments and random friends that I met up with, my actual show attendance didn’t really reflect my hypothetical and impossible schedule at all.
As far as I can recall, these are the bands I watched between Wednesday morning and Saturday night, not exactly in order: Explode Into Colors, Wavves, Abe Vigoda, The Thermals, Drink Up Buttercup, Shout Out Out Out Out, Those Darlings, Casio Kids, Deer Tick, Loch Lomond, Max Tundra, Phosphorescent, Pretty & Nice, Shilpa Ray And Her Happy Hookers, Edie Sedgwick, Amazing Baby, dd/mm/yyyy, Janelle Monae, Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band, The Soft Pack, The Homosexuals, Matt & Kim, Bearsuit, Cause Co-Motion, the Howlies, Muggabears, Super 400, Superdrag, US Royalty, Vermillion Lies, Young Coyotes, Crystal Antlers, P.O.S., Evangelicals, Funeral Party, These Are Powers, Tune-Yards, The Dashing Sunds, Lou Barlow, M. Ward, Asobi Seksu, Princeton, King Khan and the Shrines, Monotonix, Akron/Family, Echo And The Bunnymen, Explosions In The Sky, Living Things, Jimmy Webb and the Webb Brothers, The Secret Life Of Sofia, Ponytail, Titus Andronicus, Psychedellic Horseshit, and Michael Jordan.
There were others I walked by or stopped in for a minute to see, but many of their names escape me. Too many great moments to pick out a list of favorites, though finally seeing and meeting Lou Barlow was definitely amazing. Same goes for The Thermals.
Pete & the Pirates, Still Flying’, Micachu & The Shapes, The Grates, The Oh Sees, and Ida Maria were some of the acts I was hoping to catch but that just didn’t work out. Maybe I can convince some of them to come up to Maine so I can watch them here!
All of this leaves me to ask: when is next year’s festival? This time I’m reserving a hotel room super early so I don’t have to take cabs back and forth to downtown every day! Also, I’m pretty sure I need a tougher camera next time around, since my poor Digital Rebel XTi seems unhappy about all the clicking I made it go through this week. Anybody want to hook me up with one of these beauties?
