Has Canon read my mind? It sure seems possible… since abusing my poor Digital Rebelt XTi last week to the point where it doesn’t always like to respond when I click the shutter, I’ve been wondering if an upgrade might be in order. I’ve also been thinking how nice it would be to have the ability to record video with my DSLR, instead of having to tote around my point-and-shoot, which records in a barely-usable .MPG format.
Come midnight tonight, Canon released the specs on the new EOS Rebel T1i digital SLR camera. Not only does it feature some expected improvements from the popular Digital Rebel XTi and XSi models, but like the EOS 5D Mark II, it also has video recording capabilities (paired with Live View).
Even more notable to concert photographers might be the ISO range: from 100 to 3200, plus High modes at 6400 and 12800. I can’t wait to see how these really perform in low light environments. At under $900 (that’s for the kit, no word on body-only price yet body only is available from B+H for $799) it sounds like a pretty good deal.
Now my question is, what do I do? I would like to have two camera bodies before too long. I’d been looking at the 50D but now with this announcement that hardly seems worth it – plus I’d really like a full frame camera to extend the usefulness of my lenses (except of course my beloved 10-22mm, which will only work on the APS-C format, such as the Rebel line and 50D). Any advice? I like my XTi but it definitely needs to be fixed and I don’t want to have to rely on it as my only camera body for much longer.
