This isn’t really news exactly, but it involves music, moving pictures, and a really cute kitty, so I’d say it’s worthy of some attention here on Subinev.
Boston’s Kayo Dot are impossibly hard to describe. Experimental is definitely the right place to start – but genres like jazz, psych, indie rock, and metal definitely find their way into this band, whose makeup has a rock core (bass, drum, guitars) that is expanded by strings, percussion, and horns. No matter which direction they choose to go at any time, the execution is always flawless and the result pretty spectacular. This is not easy music – and certainly not always accessible, but it’s passionate and complicated and ultimately quite satisfying. In other words – it’s worth your time to check it out.
Now, the point of talking about Kayo Dot is to point you to this slightly odd but essentially just really incredibly cute kitty (flash) video that they put up. It’s from March, but I just noticed it for the first time and I think you’ll thank me for it.
